I have been researching and cannot find a reference for Smiths chronmetric speedo's or and instruments concerning what anything stands for. As an example, most if not all of the Triumph numbers for 1940's through 1950's models for big twins end with an L. Such as S467/99/L.

I am looking at a speedo that is S467/163/N I am leaning toward the indication that the letters may indicate clockwise or anti-clockwise rotation and or gear ratio, such as 2:1 or 4:1? Anybody who has knowledge of these numbers and letters, please let me know??? Also want to know what the set of numbers preceeding the letter means?
